Research Groups

There are 76 staff members in the laboratory, including 35 tenure staffs and 36 floating staffs. In addition, there are about 400 postdoctoral researchers, postgraduate students for Ph.D. degree or master's degree. All staff have good qualifications for academic research.

Prof. Weizhen Zhang, Academician of CAE

    Prof. Weizhen Zhang obtained his candidate Ph.D. degree of irrigation and drainage engineering from the Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1955. He is a pioneer in modern agriculture and water conservancy science in China, especially in fields of farm land drainage, groundwater seepage, saturated and unsaturated water movement and solute transport theory in porous media. He has received a special award from State Council and a national science and technology congress prize.

Prof. Jianheng Xie, Academician of CAE

Prof. Jianheng Xie got his candidate Ph.D. degree from Institute of Hydraulic Engineering, the Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1955. He has long been engaged in the field of river sedimentation and made significant contributions to China's river reclamation. He served as a board member of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, and the director of Sediment Specialty Committee of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society. Three ministries and commissions jointly issued individual honor certificate to him and two research projects in his charge won National Science and Technology Progress Top Grade Award.

Prof. Zhi Mao, Academician of CAE

Prof. Zhi Mao, born in 1932, is a nationally-known water-saving expert, who has made great achievements in deficit irrigation, irrigation forecasting and field water-saving technology research. As a pioneer of water-saving irrigation in the world, he has been granted "International Agricultural Water-saving Technology Outstanding Achievement Award" issued by International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). His researches received National Science and Technology Progress Class II Award.

Prof. Shenglian Guo

Prof. Shenglian Guo,obtained his Ph.D. in National University of Ireland.Now he is a committeeman of All-China Youth Federation and a delegate of the ninth and tenth National People's Congress of China, and serves as a member of editor board of 2 international and 3 national academic journals. He is also a guest professor of five universities, and a member of American Association of Geophysics Science, European Association of Geophysics Science, International Association of Hydrological Science, and International Water Resources Association. His research interests include hydrolosical models,water resources planning and management, impacts of environmental change on hydrology and water resources, reservoir flood forecast and operation.

Prof. Jinzhong Yang

Prof. Jinzhong Yang, is a member of irrigation district operation committee, ICID. Currently is also a member of National Natural Science Foundation Consultative Committee, vice director of Irrigation and Drainage Specialty Committee of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, head of Agricultural Water Conservancy Section of the Steering Committee for Education of Water Resources under the Ministry of Education of China, a member of academic committee of Key Laboratories. His Research interests relate to groundwater utilization and management, marginal water irrigation and its impacts on environment, irrigation district water-saving reform planning, design and management.

Prof. Yitian Li

Prof. Yitian Li, is the vice director of Sediment Specialty Committee of Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, the director of Sediment Specialty Committee of Hubei Hydraulic Engineering Society, and a member of Consultative Committee of International Sediment Research Training Center. He is also elected as premier scientist of National '973' Projects - 'Yangtze Rive basin flood and sediment forming and transporting and its coupling mechanism with environmental change'. He has long been engaged in fields of basic principles of river sediment movement, flood and sediment movement simulating theory and technology and flood and sediment disaster forming mechanism and its prevention.

Prof. Shenghong Chen

Prof. Shenghong Chen, is the visiting professor of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland), Lille University of Science and Technology (France) and University of Parma (Italy). Now he is a member of the Committee on Computational Aspects of Analysis and Design of Dams, International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), a member of editorial board of Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Rock and Soil Mechanics. His research interests include computational simulation of hydraulic structure and geotechnical engineering structure, stability analysis and comprehensive reinforcement analysis of rock foundation, rock slope, underground structure, and related optimal design as well as feedback analysis.

Prof. Jiandong Yang

Prof. Jiandong Yang, is the vice director of Hydraulic Machinery Specialty Committee,a member of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydraulics Specialty Committee,and the vice director of Hydropower Station Operation Management Specialty Committee of Hubei Hydraulic Engineering Society,subordinated to China Society of Hydropower Engineering. His research interests are hydraulic, mechanical and electric power transition process, transient gas-liquid two-phase flow and 3-D flow field numerical simulation for the whole conduits in Hydropower Station.
